All are shown in day, month, and year sequence. Prior to adoption in Great Britain in 1752 of the Gregorian calendar, the civil calendar was out-of-step with the solar year, commencing 25th March, thus dates in January and February, and to 24th March, were recorded under the previous calendar-year heading. In this history pre-1752 events between 1st January and 24th March are treated as having occurred in the later year.
