on research.
The main, and in many
cases the only source of information of early generations, are the registers of
baptisms/christenings, marriages and burials kept by the Anglican Parish churches before
the beginning of civil registration in 1837. The earliest registers available at Somerset
Record Office date from around 15,0 (some incomplete or in early years largely
indecipherable)- most others commence within 150 years of that date. The earliest register
for Langford Budville, where the family tree begins, dates from 1537, but marriage records
prior to 1607 and between 1673 and 1665 no longer exist. Some Somerset burial registers
from around 1P.13 are Still held or Sit use by churches concerned, rd these will not hove
been inspected; in Bristol some resisters were destroyed in air raid- in the 1c 39-45 bar,
which man account for failure to trace two marriages and the baptisms of some other
members of in Wrington/Barbell group with Bristol links (the marriages would hove been
around 1753S and 1-34, but do not appear in recently-compiled indexes of Somerset &
Dorset and Bristol & Avon Family History Societies).
Post-1836
births, marriages and deaths occurring outside Somerset and Bristol, and a few within those
locations, have been followed-up as for as possible by correspondence with members of the
family in current telephone directories; sadly a few have not responded, and information
they might have been able to provide is lacking.
