(for attachment to Sec. 1a of family tree).
Since compilation in August, 1990, the following information affecting Section 1 has come to light:
Andrew Wigwood buried 17.6.1627 Salisbury St. Edmund, John Wegood on 28.9.1640 list of tenants of Dewlish (Dorset) Manor. |
) ) presumed sons of Thomas b 1540/1. ) |
John Wegood's tenancy taken over in following year by son, William Whegood, listed with brother Emanuel (1) Wegood on Dorset Protestation Rolls of 1641/2.
John and descendants, the great bulk of those whose origins can be traced to Dorset, are covered in a separate "Dorset Supplement" commencing at Section 16.
Andrew's baptism and marriage not traced, nor burial of unidentified wife, which almost certainly took place in 1627; his children are recorded in Salisbury St. Edmund registers (in variants Wigwood, Weekwood, Weegood, Wegood) as follows, viz:

(signed)Thomas Goden, George Nook, 28th Marty Anno Dm 1628’
(Notes. (a) date in heading, at this time year ran from 25th March to 24th March,
(b) "Seelinge" a screen of tapestry, a curtain,
(c) "liverie Bedstead", type for use of servants - occurs also in inventory of Thomas b 1540/1,
(d) "Harrower", presumably tools of trade,
(e) "Preysers", appraisers).
Only Anstea and John survived the plague, which was rampant in Salisbury in 1627; no later trace of them found there. Scattered surviving bishops' transcripts (annual returns of baptisms, marriages and burials) for Langford Budville, not previously searched, revealed the following marriages in periods for which registers no longer exist, viz:
14.1.1641 Anne Wigwood - Peter Bagbeere
9.3.1641 John Wigwood - Mary Gredy, (Mary bu 28.2.1693),
Oct. 1663 Thomas Wigwood - Alice Nurton.
A 23.6.1663 burial of Joane Wigwood, daughter of Mary, widow, also appeared.
Further search of registers produced burials,
20. 8.1651 Andrew, son of John Wigwood (not found previously),
3.11.1673 (and 7.3.1686) Peter, son Of John Bagbeere,
4, 3.1693 Anne Bagbeere, widow.
Four children of Peter and Anne Bagbeere were baptized between 1641 and 1650, Frances, Christopher, John and Dorothy.
Now clear that John bu 14.3.1661 was son of Andrew bu Salisbury and grandson of Thomas b 1540/1. The 1651 burial of son Andrew (c 16.4.1645) means that Andrew bu 16.5.1730 was the second of that name (a not unusual occurrence); there is no record of baptism of second Andrew, or of Joane bu 23.6.1663, both probably born in the "Commonwealth period", 1653/60, when a form of civil registration replaced church recording.
A re-examination of Stawley register shows that William c 22.4.1699 was the 60n of Thomas and Mary Twogood, not Waygood; the baptism and burial dates for Thomas and Mary on the family tree relate to Wigwoods/Waygoods, although it now appears that the burial entry for Mary refers to Thomas's sister. There is no record of the burial of Thomas's wife, Alice, or of any children.
Other additions to Section 1 of the family tree follow, and are supplemented, where necessary, in the 1993 Update and Dorset Supplement.
