W, father George Fox, basket maker - banns of marriage read at Glan. W in 1835, but marriage did not take place. George Waygood d 1919(1) Sturm. RD, m 20.4.1865 Glan. W, Susan Biles (1833 B/New.-18.6.1924 Woolland), farmed at Mount Pleasant, Hazelbury Bryan (165 acres 2 labourers 1881), churchwarden there 1892-1910, wife Susan's father Arthur, dairyman. George's Waygood descendants follow (male line has probably died out), his children were:

William farmed at Mount Pleasant, Arthur and son Arthur George at Kitford Farm, Ibberton, William Henry was in Canada in 1981, Edward was also a farmer, and sub-postmaster at Woolland.

John b 1820,

agricultural labourer, wife Elizabeth glover, her father William, labourer, lived at Glan. W 1851/81 at Post Office, where sister Jane was sub-postmistress, for part of this time; 1891 census shows Elizabeth, widow, as "domestic duties".

 

Jane Ann c 20.2.1831,

Clover, sub-postmistress, retained her maiden name by marrying two Charles Waygoods, whose fathers both bore the name James, see sections 25 and 19.

 

James John b 1849(2),

 Labourer/gardener, wife Maria's father Stephen, labourer, family home Tiley Green. Maria's early death resulted in the family being divided at 1881 census a few weeks later, James was lodging with Lydia Wenlock, 61, annuitant invalid, at Tiley, son George was with grandparents John and Elizabeth at Glan. W (still with grandmother 1891), Charles with Timothy and Emma Warr and their four children, also Glan. W, and Elizabeth (shown as Bessie Wagwood) with Richard and Anne Saunders at Chetnole.

 husband and his father William labourers.

 

William Arkenwell b 1859(1),

name shown as it appears in births index, baptised as William Arcowald, married as William Artenwell when living at 34, Harvey jade Camberwell, wife's father Thomas, porter; worked at Northern Outfall Works, Beckton, family lived at Peckham and Barking.

 

Albert Thomas b 1861(1),

labourer.

 

Arthur Edward b 1864(1).

Letter carrier, Glanvilles Wootton, 1881. Prior to 1897 there was no General free delivery of postal packets, and in rural areas in particular addressees were required to collect their mail from local post offices; in many cases the postmaster employed a letter carrier to make deliveries at extra charge (see reference to "town postmen" in notes re Edith Mary b 1874(4), Sec. 20). Arthur's aunt Jane Ann this section above was sub-postmistress at Glanvilles Wootton from 1861 to 1881 at least. General labourer 1891 killed in motor accident at Glanvilles Wootton, widow Lucy (maiden name Bugler) re-married, husband Brian Ashford.

served in R.A.F., later M.O.D. driver at Andover Aerodrome, wife Greta Joan's parents owned a general store which she managed for 39 years.

wife from Oldham, where he lived for some time at 3, Broughton Road.

secretary, husband Sergeant R.A.S.C., from Rugby.
