Emma at Knowsley View, 61, Boundary Lane, Everton (1865), she re-married 17.7.1865 at St. Chrysostom Church, Walton-on-the-Hill, Liverpool, John Brown, commercial traveller (father Thomas, farmer), when both were at that address. An Emma Waygood death, 1906(4), at age 76, appears in the index in Wirral RD (App. C 632), where the birth of the daughter of Henry William Brodie (a son of James ) was registered in 1896, Henry died in Birkenhead RD (within Wirral and probably the later name for that RD); there is no known candidate, other than the one-time Emma Mills - there is no cross-reference in the index to Mills or Brown.

left an intriguing diary 18.5.1877 to 31.12.1878, to 7.3.1878 covering his voyages from Liverpool, as engineer, on the 'Leibnitz' to (a) Buenos Aires, calling at Montevideo on outward and return journeys and, on the latter, at Madeira, Southampton and Antwerp (79 days), (b) after 15 days in home port to Rio de Janeiro and Montevideo, returning via Lisbon, Southampton and Antwerp (76 days) - on outward journey, in South Atlantic, is a note, "Still strong wind just allowing square sails today for first time". His third and last voyage, on the 'Pascal', as third engineer, involved, in that order, Antwerp, Madeira, Rio de Janeiro, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Santos, Bahia, St. Vincent, Lisbon, Le Havre, Antwerp (118 days). Engine problems encountered and resolved, relationships with fellow engineers (mostly unhappy) and Personal ill health (headaches, bronchitis, asthma &c) all recorded, as was his clear intention to sign-on for no further voyage, this confirmed by an entry of 7.3.1878, which reads, "So ends my seafaring life, at least hope to Heaven it does, for it has been to me one long continued misery ....". Having decided to emigrate to New Zealand (a change of climate approved by his doctor) he embarked on S.S. Kent (2304 tons) at Gravesend, 6.11.1878, this time as passenger, arriving Melbourne, Australia, 28.12.1878. The diary ends there; the passenger contract ticket shows his accommodation on the Kent to have been Third Cabin (Steerage), fare including victualling £21. Schoolteacher at marriage, retired headmaster (New Lynn Primary School) at death, when his address was 7, Percival Parade, Ponsonby, wife Sarah daughter of Charles and Margaret of Southampton.

Met bride-to-be in London and paid her fare to NZ to marry him, mechanical engineer at marriage, wife Blanche saleswoman, her parents Arthur, butler, and Annie Louisa. First ten years of marriage spent in Adelaide, Australia, as engineer for a motor firm, returning to Auckland, NZ, to manage garage for Winstone Ltd., 1934/61. His varied activities included secretaryship of West End Bowling Club, people's warden at All Saints Church, Ponsonby, founder and patron of North Piha Lifesaving Club, membership and chairmanship of committees of Auckland Electric Power Board, membership and presidency of Electrical Supply Authority's Industrial Union of Employers, Justice of the Peace. Installed North Piha's water supply in the 1950s, and in 1961 received the Governor‑General's citation for services to the Scout movement.
