See Thomas c 18.12.1774, Sec. 16. An Emma Waygood death, 1906(4), at age 76, appears in the index in Wirral RD (App. C 632), where the birth of the daughter of Henry William Brodie (a son of James ) was registered in 1896, Henry died in Birkenhead RD (within Wirral and probably the later name for that RD); there is no known candidate, other than the one-time Emma Mills - there is no cross-reference in the index to Mills or Brown.

His third and last voyage, on the 'Pascal', as third engineer, involved, in that order, Antwerp, Madeira, Rio de Janeiro, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Santos, Bahia, St. Vincent, Lisbon, Le Havre, Antwerp (118 days). Engine problems encountered and resolved, relationships with fellow engineers (mostly unhappy) and Personal ill health (headaches, bronchitis, asthma &c) all recorded, as was his clear intention to sign-on for no further voyage, this confirmed by an entry of 7.3.1878, which reads, "So ends my seafaring life, at least hope to Heaven it does, for it has been to me one long continued misery ....". Having decided to emigrate to New Zealand (a change of climate approved by his doctor) he embarked on S.S. Kent (2304 tons) at Gravesend, 6.11.1878, this time as passenger, arriving Melbourne, Australia, 28.12.1878. The diary ends there; the passenger contract ticket shows his accommodation on the Kent to have been Third Cabin (Steerage), fare including victualling £21.
