Wool cripper 1851. The only beneficiary under his will was Arthur Smith, wool salesman, probably indicating that he had no children; in the latter connection see note re his brother John, below.
Wool cripper 1851, stoker in steam vessel 1866, fireman (probably the same thing) 1872, mariner 1800. Wife Harriett's father Robert Harvey, quay foreman. Children Robert and Frederick born to Harriett while she was still married to George Gregory. Robert at Cumberland Street, Southampton, at marriage, living later at 14, Improved Buildings, Chantry Road, Southampton.
Wool sorter in Wellington, and in Bradford area, wife Elizabeth factory worker, her father James, labourer. Living at Tong Street, Tong, near Bradford, in 1867, and probably still there in 1889, since the same address is shown for son William at his marriage in that year. It has not been possible to confirm parentage of the following children attributed to John and Eliza, although clear that they belong to John or his brothers James or William, the only available candidates - see note above re James, which may suggest that he had no offspring, certainly none was born in the early years of his marriage.
Sarah - father James or John, William not married until 1868,
Flora - could be any of the three, but note Florence (1885), John James - cannot be William, whose son James was born 1873(4),
Frank - could be any of the three, but name used for son of William, John's known son,
Fred - could be any of the three, but death was in North Brierley RD, where John and Eliza died and two of their known children married,
Arthur - very early death may provide a link with four similar above.
In the absence of other information the births are believed to have been correctly attributed A further birth for which confirmation of parentage his not been forthcoming is that of Ethel, 1895(3) Fylde RD (Lancs.), who died 1900(2) North Bierley RD. John's wife Eliza was beyond normal child-rearing age in 1895, and choice of father appears to rest between sons William and Edward; births to Edward's wife in adjacent years tip the scale in favour of William, to whom Ethel's birth has been attributed.
Apprentice cordwainer (shoemaker), factory worker, labourer, fitter, mechanic. Wife Sarah weaver, her father William, platelayer. Living at Rockwell Green 1869, 1871 and 1881. . William died in the Bradford area at 38 years, and Sarah almost certainly re-married in Wellington RD in 1885(4).
